Katy Needs A Life started in 2009 for a high school talent show. The project started as a two piece featuring vocals, a keyboard, a bass, and a drum machine. Katy May and Sean Burrows played two shows together before Burrows resigned from the project.
Between 2010 and 2013, Katy Needs A Life took on a more rock and roll feel when Scott May joined the band on electric guitar and vocals. The group played primarily in the Chicago summer months. Scott brought an element to the music that was sorely missed when he left the project in 2012.
From 2013 to 2015, the act became a solo project featuring a simple stage plot of a keyboard and computer for background instrumentation.
In the fall of 2015, Katy Needs A Life became a full band making it a completely new experience. Rick Matheny, David Bolema, Pat Webster, and Benjamin Wearwulf brought an entirely new feel to the music that had been played the same way for so long.
